When water arrives from below, the drain has to sit under the slab to meet it.
In Byron the water often comes from underneath. Coastal Plain sand passes rain down to the saturated zone, and when that level rises the pressure pushes water up against the underside of the slab and through the cold joint at the wall.
A drain designed for wall seepage does very little about that. The pipe has to sit below the slab, in the zone where the water is actually moving, so it lowers the level under the floor before any of it surfaces.
Sandy soil makes that install straightforward. The stone bed drains quickly, water reaches the pipe fast, and the drain performs well once it is at the right depth. Where the lot falls away we run the discharge by gravity, and on level ground near the creek the drain feeds a sump.
Our basement french drains scope is the same on every Byron home, whatever the Peach County ground turns out to be doing.
